background
Fisher, Gautrey, Harpener and Bellamy attended the same school, but The Cooper Temple Clause originally formed from the ashes of several Reading bands - Hobo Jack, Fleece and Hotel Lounge. Their first gig was at the Reading watering hole, Alleycats. To get interest from record labels, they sent demos to the majors, together with a packet of Smarties. Good move – they signed to RCA in August 2000 for a reputed "six figure" sum. Securing support slots with Muse and Embrace, the band issued their debut single, the Hardware EP, in a curious limited edition with a free, unique polaroid photograph as part of the package. Formula One team boss Eddie Jordan is a fan, citing them as "a cracking outfit", following a show at the 100 Club in London. Praise indeed, and although Tom Bellamy knackered his back loading equipment into their van prior to the opening date on their current UK tour, the Coopers (as we don't like to call them) will be ready and raring to go for New To Q. They've just been to Japan and Australia, while their fans are champing at the bit to arrange aftershow parties for the band (possibly involving beer). The band's latest single is Who Needs Enemies.

What Q Said
"The Cooper Temple Clause's debut is a bit like primal scream therapy: an uneasy display of catharsis." (Dan Gennoe, February 2002)
